Post Malone's most famous tattoos and their meanings

Post Malone’s unique style is just as recognizable as his distinct musical sensibility.

The artist, whose real name is Austin Post, has tons of tattoos covering his head, neck, body — and perhaps most notably, his face.

The “Circles” singer has spoken about his affinity for facial tats in the past, attributing his ever-growing collection to a lack of confidence in his appearance.

“I’m a ugly-ass motherf—ker,” Malone said in a 2020 interview with GQ.

“[The face tattoos do] maybe come from a place of insecurity, to where I don’t like how I look, so I’m going to put something cool on there so I can look at myself and say, ‘You look cool, kid,’ and have a modicum of self-confidence, when it comes to my appearance.”

However, not all of the Texas native’s ink is intended to distract; the singer also has plenty of designs dedicated to his hometown, religion, inspirations and aesthetics.

Below, see some of Post Malone’s most famous tattoos, and learn more about their meanings.

“Always Tired”

Perhaps Posty’s most famous tattoo, these two under-eye designs serve as a cheeky replacement for concealer after a long night.

“Stay Away” and Lil Peep tribute

Located above his right eyebrow, this tribute to one of Malone’s favorite Nirvana songs is also a warning for anyone who might get too close to the superstar. The placement was inspired by the late Lil Peep, who had “CryBaby” inked in the same spot, he told GQ.

After Lil Peep died from a drug overdose in 2017, Malone tattooed the rapper’s portrait — complete with the “CryBaby” tattoo — on his arm.

Malone will always hit the jackpot with a perfect 21 on his forehead.

Barbed wire

Though some might equate Malone’s forehead barbed wire with Jesus’ crown of thorns, the musician admitted, “I don’t know, I just think barbed wire is cool.” He’s also got barbed wire on his hands, and has incorporated it into other designs as well.

Sword

“Swords are f—king awesome,” Malone told GQ of the knife tattooed down the side of his face. “What better way to make my mom mad than a nice big claymore on my face?”

Smiley face and Playboy bunny

Malone’s “accidental Marshmello tattoo” features a smiley face with Xs for eyes, much like the infamous DJ’s helmet. While the “Rockstar” singer has a tiny Playboy bunny logo tattooed under the smiley face, it’s not his only ink dedicated to Hugh Hefner’s empire; Malone’s first tattoo ever was a large version of the logo on his forearm, which has since faded.

Medieval gauntlet

To ring in 2020, Post Malone got his biggest face tattoo to date: a huge medieval gauntlet and flail, referencing the suit of armor he sported in the “Circles” music video.

“I have cut my hair even shorter, also skeletons are cool,” the singer captioned a photo of the flaming skull inked on the side of his head.

Buzzsaw

Done by artist Ruben Reza backstage after Posty’s concert in Kansas City, Missouri, in February 2020, the bloody buzzsaw sits on his left cheek.

“There’s really nothing to it,” Malone said of one of his most recognizable tattoos, which spans his entire neck.

Zombie Jesus

“Jesus is very handsome so I figured, ‘How could we make him super metal?’,” Malone said of this depiction of Christ with melting flesh.

Yes, Malone even has a tattoo of his own likeness. As he’s explained, it was created by superimposing his face onto the body of a video game character on horseback — but it’s missing his signature face tattoos (for now, at least).

Next up: Doritos?

While many of Malone’s tattoos nod to the weird, funny or simply meaningless things he enjoys, he has yet to debut Doritos-inspired ink. The brand created a commercial depicting the triangular chip as an addition to his many face tattoos, but the singer has yet to follow through in real life.
