Max Verstappen's mother accuses Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez of 'cheating on his wife' in deleted

Max Verstappen’s mother has deleted an Instagram post in which she accused her son’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez of ‘cheating on his wife’.

The fallout from a chaotic Brazilian Grand Prix rumbles on in which Verstappen stole the headlines when he defied team orders and refused to let Perez past.

World champion Verstappen had been allowed to overtake Perez for sixth in order to hunt down Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and take points off of him.

Leclerc is currently competing with Perez for second in the drivers’ world championship, and after Verstappen failed to gain any positions, he was told on team radio: “Max, let Checo through, please.”

The Dutchman was then asked ‘what happened’ after he held position, and replied: “I told you already last time, guys don’t ask that again to me, OK? Are we clear about that? I gave my reasons and I stand by it.”

It has widely been reported that Verstappen was referencing qualifying in Monaco earlier this season when it’s alleged Perez admitted to crashing in order to line-up ahead of his teammate, and eventually take victory at the prestigious event.

Speaking on the radio after the event, Perez said: “It shows who he really is,” before adding post-race, “I think if Max has two championships it’s because of me.”

With Verstappen receiving criticism for his actions a year on from Perez’s crucial impact in helping him seal a title win over Lewis Hamilton in Abu Dhabi, his mother has now jumped to his defence with a shocking allegation.

Replying to a Red Bull fan in reference to Perez, Sophie Kumpen wrote: “And then in the evening cheating on his wife.”

The now-deleted comment may have been in reference to a video of Perez dancing with a woman that wasn’t his wife in Monaco, which the Mexican publicly apologised for.

“I have seen the videos that have been circulating about me and I take responsibility for it,” he wrote on Instagram in June.

“It was a bad party that I didn't know how to control at the height of the person that I am, but it was just that, a very bad party.

“People close to me know my values and the type of person that I am. For those who ask me, we are more united than ever, me and my wife. And for those who just want to hurt us, I wish you the best.

“Thank you all for your love and I apologise to all the people who love me because those videos don't represent me, not at all.

“We will not talk about this topic anymore, which only makes us forget the great moment we are living as a family. Thank you.”

The scenes in Brazil are likely to cast a shadow, with constructors’ champions Red Bull relying heavily on Perez and Verstappen’s relationship to secure back-to-back titles.

Discussing the incident, team principal Christian Horner said: “The drivers have obviously spoken about it as well. They’re very, very clear.

“And for us, Checo is now tied on points with Charles, Ferrari didn’t switch their cars round. Now we go into Abu Dhabi as a team to do the very best that we can for Checo to achieve that second place and Max will fully support that.

“The drivers have discussed it, they’ve shaken hands and we’re absolutely focused on that next race. We work as a team, we race as a team and our objective and priority is to see if we can get Checo to finish runner-up in the championship.”

But the incident annoyed Verstappen, who slammed the media's criticism of him: "I looked very bad in the media but they also didn't have the clear picture… but to immediately put me down is pretty ridiculous to be honest.

"They don't know how I work within the team and what the team appreciates about me, so all the things I have read are pretty disgusting."
